Monroe and Union County governments are offering Scott Safety almost $1 million in incentives to choose the company's Monroe facility for a 67-job expansion.
Scott Safety would spend about $28 million to expand the building in Monroe and add the jobs to the current 600-person staff there, if the company's owners decide to bring the addition to Monroe.
Andrew Chrostowski, president of Scott Safety, isn't making any promises, though.
"As a longtime member of Union County and the City of Monroe, we sincerely appreciate these economic incentives that will most certainly aid in our final location decisions," Chrostowski states in a news release about the expansion plans.
The incentives, which total $917,700, were approved during separate meetings Monday of Monroe City Council and the Union Board of County Commissioners.
"Our commitment to Scott is as strong as their commitment to their customers," says Mayor Bobby Kilgore of Monroe.
Scott Safety officials are expected to make a decision in January.
In Monroe, Scott Safety makes breathing equipment that is used by firefighters and other first responders. Its plant is at 4320 Goldmine Road.
